Relationships Are Hard Work!

We have all seen it happen before. It probably has happened to each of us. We know two people who everyone thinks are just perfect for each other. Then what seems like out of the blue they suddenly break up. The explanation given by one of the partners is that it just got too hard. They believe that a relationship should not be that much work. Well, this might be true, but it really depends on your definition and feelings about work.

The reality is relationships do require work. They probably require more work than any other endeavor you may pursue in your entire life. But the kind of work relationships require is more along the lines of effort: caring and consistent effort on the part of both partners. It should a purposeful effort on your part to build and sustain the relationship.

You should take the advice that people give when someone is looking for a new job. They tell them to find something they love and then it won't feel like "work". This couldn't be more true when it comes to relationships. If you truly love the person you are with, then the effort you put into the relationship won't feel like work. Also, just like in the situation of a job, your chances of being successful at maintaining a long lasting relationship are greater if you are with someone you love and care about. If you are, then get ready to roll up your sleeves and get to work. The results will be well worth it.
